What is a Period?

A period is a natural process that a woman's body goes through. During ones period a females body is going through puberty. Everyone goes through puberty, it's natural. Hormones are chemical substances that travel all over your body and help control you! During puberty new hormones are being created. For females these hormones help with preparing for pregancy later on in life. Periods can start as young as 8 and as old to 16. While on your period (also known as the menstrual cycle) blood leaves a girl's body, which is the most visible part of the process. This process can last up to 3 and 10 days depending on your own body.

Period help!

During a period one might feel physical and mental pain. A young woman's body is going through change! Dealing with cramps, bloating, acne breakouts, mood swings, headaches, and sleepyness are all symptoms of a period. PMS-Premenstrual syndrome- is a group of changes that can affect a person on many levels. This change comes a few weeks before your period. To help deal with period issues working out can help smoothe the body. Taking care of what goes in the body and taking care of skin is very important.

If your unfamiliar with the Pink Tax or the #PinkTax movement it's the extra amount of money that women are charged with that are produced as feminine or "luxury" items.

Some examples of products are...

  • Razors
  • hair items
  • pads and tampons
  • deordorant

This is harmful to many girls who are either homeless or don't have enough money to buy these products.

Questions

Why does a period come on different days each month and sometimes they aren't every month?

One might have an irregular period. An irregular period is when a girls cycle is different (off a few days). Most are around 28 days. A irregular period is nothing to be worried about, just be prepared for unexpectedness. This might happen because of stress, weight, or just your body getting used to having a period.

Can someone get pregnant on their period?

Yes you can still get pregnant. If ones cycle is different you can ovulate early. Ovulation is the realease of eggs in ones ovaries. It is possible, so be careful.

Does using a tampon hurt?

No using a tampon shouldn't hurt unless it's uncorrectly used. The body is meant to stretch.
